This series of five artworks so far, was painted in honour of my father, Robert V. Hansen (1922-2012). Bob knew no oystercatchers, but took us on countless trips to the Bruce Peninsula, where we happily absorbed his love of nature, hiking, birds, and plants. Thanks to Bob and Helen for those great family excursions!
Oystercatchers #131, 132, 133
48" x 90" (three panels)
These paintings now grace the walls of one of my favourite Canadian leaders, in the boardroom of her public office in Sidney, BC, right in the heart of Saanich-Gulf Islands.
My Oystercatchers will be easy to find at the Moss Street Paint-In. I'll be at the corner of Moss Street and Dallas Road, Saturday July 21st, 11:00 - 4:30. Here's the link: http://aggv.ca/events/gallery-paint-in
In defense of the oystercatcher and its habitat, I am hand-writing an art postcard to over 200 Canadian members of parliament, urging that they work across party lines to put the brakes on proposed legislation (Bill C-38) that will further gut our social fabric, economy, and environment. So troubling are these proposed laws, that several former cabinet ministers from all parties have written an open letter of concern.
